Reciprocal License Amateur radio operators who hold a valid license in their country of origin may operate in Costa Rica on a temporary basis during their stay. Both amateurs from countries which do and do not have reciprocal license agreements with Costa Rica may request validation. Validation is obtained through the Office of Radio Control (TI0CNR), and in order to validate a license copy of the corresponding license document must be presented, along with a valid passport and visa, when applicable. Validation takes approximately 3 days, and on many occasions can be done over the Internet prior to arrival. For more information visit http://www.cnradio.go.cr or write to controlderadio@racsa.co.cr Foreign stations operating on a temporary basis use the "TI" prefix, followed by a digit corresponding to their location (2 - San José, 3 - Heredia, 4 - Cartago, 5- Alajuela, 6 - Limón, 7 - Guanacaste, 8 - Puntarenas), and their full callsign. For example: TI2/K1ZZ. Operation from Cocos Island (TI9) is of a restricted nature, and requires special autorization from TI0CNR. If you plan to operate from Cocos, please contact Radio Club of Costa Rica so that we may guide you in obtaining the necessary permits, required both for legal operation and for international validation of your expedition. |
